England fans across Sheffield are taking their seats tonight at pubs, bars and living rooms city-wide to watch the national side take on Uruguay in the World Cup.

Luis Suarez scored both Uruguay’s goals, which was enough to hand the team three points despite Rooney’s first World Cup goal.

The Star caught up with England fans in the city centre after the game for their reactions.

Russell Lonsdale, aged 48, from Frecheville, said: “I don’t think we have enough quality in front of goal. Uruguay must have had about four chances and scored two of them.

“Rooney played quite well but we just lack that little bit of quality up front.

“Roll on France 2016.”

Matthew Holmes, 32, from Wadsley, said: “Every time we went forward, they had three or four around Sterling. What did we do? England play different to every other team, they don’t seem to put as much effort in or press very much.”

Phil Marrison, 24, of West Street, Sheffield, said: “I felt ecstatic, then disappointed. The first half we didn’t play that well, the second half was very different.

“But there were a lot of mistakes being made, silly passes and things like that.

“And Suarez can put anything in the back of the net.”

England went into half-time a goal down but a Rooney equaliser had fans in pubs across the city centre roaring.

It set up a knife-edge finale, before Liverpool’s prolific striker all but ended hopes of the three lions’ World Cup progression.

England can still go through depending on other results before the final group game against Costa Rica on Tuesday.

Russ Wilkinson, aged 34, of Heeley, added: “We can technically still go through with a win against Costa Rica, but do we deserve to?”
