The mum and stepmum of a wanted man who has barricaded himself in a home have turned up at the scene.
Atholl Crescent in Intake has been sealed off by police since around 7am.
Officers armed with machine guns were among the first officers on the scene but have since left, eyewitnesses said.
There is a heavy police presence in the street with several marked cars and vans parked up as well as ambulances.
A police spokesman said: “Officers are currently in Atholl Crescent, Intake, while they negotiate with a man inside a property there.
“The man is wanted in connection with an earlier incident.
“Specially trained officers are at the scene in a bid to resolve the incident quickly and efficiently, while a cordon is in place for public safety.”
A police negotiator has banged on the door of the property but attempts to contact the man have been unsuccessful.
One of the police vans contains tactical response unit officers equipped with riot shields and a chainsaw, but they have not yet been deployed.
The original police cordon around the house has now been extended to around 200 yards.
A resident in Atholl Crescent, who did not want to be named said: “We think there’s a lad who lives there with his dad and we think his mum is on holiday. The police are not telling us what’s wrong and they don’t seem to have gone anywhere nears the house.
“There’s been no trouble from that house that we know about before today. The police were here when I got up about 8am and somebody said they’d been there about 50 minutes. This is such a quiet street, we can’t understand what it’s all about.”
