They chanted: “Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here.”

Sheffield residents heard about the various projects in the city aimed at helping refugees and how they could get involved.

Several youngsters also spoke to the crowd about their feelings on the migrant crisis.

It was the city’s first demonstration since Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the UK will take in 20,000 refugees.

Following the announcement, Sheffield Council said it would ‘immediately open its doors’ to Syrian refugees.

Today’s demonstration coincided with a march in London, which saw thousands of people take to the streets in support of refugees.
