“Christmas is our favourite time of year and, for us, the seasonal preparations really do have to start early doors,” said operations manager Jonathan Liversidge.

“There may still be 12 weeks to go until the big day, but we’ve already had customers asking when festive items will appear and getting excited about starting their Christmas shopping.”

The Sheffield store’s visual merchandising team has been working around the clock to prepare the Christmas shop, ahead of its official launch yesterday morning.

Jonathan added: “The work began months ago for us, sourcing products, planning displays and selecting themes.

“Locally, our Sheffield team has been working hard for the last two weeks, going through the available stock, planning the layout and pulling all the different elements together to create this magical look.”

Julia Domican, head of visual merchandising, said: “It took a team of 10 people about 12 hours on Monday to bring the months of planning to life.

“It’s a very busy and very hectic time in store, but so enjoyable and exciting and everybody wants to get involved.

“We have some great themes this year, including our ‘vintage’ and ‘rural’ displays, which I’ve particularly fallen in love with.

“I also really love the white paper Christmas tree, which has been designed especially for children, and looks absolutely beautiful when it’s all decorated up. Preparing for Christmas is one of the highlights of my job.”

Shoppers proved Christmas can never come too early, as they poured into the shop, to look at ornaments and gift wrapping and buy festive decorations.

One shopper said: “I’ve been waiting eagerly for the Christmas display to appear, checking every time I come in store.

“It always looks so lovely and, for me, it really signals the start of Christmas.”

Jess Margetts, of the visual merchandising team, said: “There’s a real sense of excitement in the air when people see Christmas stuff appearing.”
