Scores of youngsters descended stepped into the limelight in a bid to land a spot in a Doncaster pantomime.

It might be the height of summer, but preparations are already well underway for the production of Peter Pan which will be held at Doncaster Racecourse in December and January.

Scores of young hopefuls have spent the last two days trying out for judges hoping to land a part in the show which stars Man About The House and Railway Children star Sally Thomsett.

The racecourse team and pantomime producers David Lee and Stadium Entertainment Events Ltd have been overwhelmed by interest around the auditions which saw hundreds of youngsters showcase their talents

Organisers were on the hunt to find two teams of six young performers to appear as ‘The Lost Boys’ in the magical adventure this Christmas and they were also looking to cast Michael and John Darling, two key parts in the production.

“We have always had a great response from the youngsters in the region,” said director David Lee.

“I’ve always been very impressed with the standard of the talent here in the north.”

Mark Huby of the Nellie Stagles Dance Academy said: “The standard has been amazing - it is definitely one of the toughest auditions we’ve ever done. Everyone has been so good and we’ve not wanted to reject anyone.

“We want to bring back the traditional Civic Theatre pantomime to Doncaster this Christmas and that’s exactly what we will be doing,

“We are really looking forward to it and the tickets are already selling like hot cakes.”
