TV talent show contestants proved they had the X Factor when they performed in front of a crowd of thousands in Sheffield.

Living the dream, finalists in last year’s X Factor took to the stage at the city’s Motorpoint Arena to perform for fans who voted for them week after week to try to keep them on the show.

Winner Sam Bailey, a former prison officer and mum-of-two, who is 10 weeks’ pregnant, wowed the crowd with a set of numbers she impressed judges with week after week as she battled for the recording contract on offer.

How Will I Know, Clown and her Christmas number one Skyscraper were all followed with deafening applause.

She was joined on stage by dreadlocked rocker Luke Friend, whose army of loyal fans raised the roof when he made his grand entrance.

Powerhouse Hannah Barrett also proved popular along with talented teenager Tamera Foster, who was tipped at the start of the X Factor to win the show before Sam’s flawless performances sealed the deal.

Runner-up Nicholas McDonald performed his version Robbie Williams’ Candy while teen heart-throb Sam Callahan sang Bryan Adams’ Summer of ‘69.

Shy Abi Alton slowed down the tempo of the show with her version of I Will Survive, where she showcased her musical talent by playing the piano.

Rough Copy, whose band member Sterling Ramsey has relatives in Sheffield, also proved a hit with their loyal following.

The X Factor tour moves to Wembley on Saturday and will be followed by gigs at Liverpool on Monday and Tuesday, Leeds on Wednesday and Nottingham on Friday.

It runs until the end of the month, with the final show at Birmingham
