SHEFFIELD Victorian Society is going ahead with tonight’s planned city centre walk - despite thousands of people gathering for civic celebrations to mark Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion.
But the route of the guided trek, which aims to highlight Sheffield’s finest buildings from the 19th century period, will have to be changed slightly.
Valerie Bayliss, walk organiser, said: “We congratulate Wednesday on their success and hope their supporters have a great time. But the walk we offered, to look at the Victorian buildings we can also be proud of, will definitely take place.
“However, we won’t start on the Town Hall steps, as intended – they’ll be a bit crowded! Instead we’ll meet by the Peace Gardens fountains at 6.30pm, and I’ll rejig the route.”
A further Victorian Society walk is taking place on Wednesday, May 23. For details, call 0114 230 7693.
