Sheffield United dumped Premier League side Aston Villa out at the third round stage of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Villa Park last weekend and this was no fluke with the Blades dominating the hosts.

Nigel Clough’s side will entertain Norwich or Fulham in front of the BT Sport cameras on Sunday January 26 and BetVictor clipped them into 400/1 from 750/1 to hold the Cup aloft at Wembley in May.

The Blades return to League action this weekend with a trip to Notts County and they will be looking to get back to winning ways in their bread and butter following their 2-1 defeat at Walsall on New Year’s Day. Notts were 3-0 winners against Bradford City in their last outing at New Year and this will, arguably, be a tougher examination of the Blades than they were subject to at Villa Park as the hosts are fighting for survival in League One.

BetVictor make Notts 11/4 favourites to finish the campaign bottom of the table and 4/9 to be relegated and if United are to mount a serious challenge for a play-off spot in the second half of the 2013/14 season this is the type of game they need to get all three points from. BetVictor price them at 6/4 to do just that with second-from-bottom Notts 15/8 and 23/10 the draw.

Nigel Clough and Jose Baxter have been nominated for the Manager and Player of the Month for December and both accolades are richly deserved. The Blades are 40/1 for promotion.

It was a bad weekend for our Championship sides but the Owls should finish the job against Macclesfield next week although their coffers will hardly be swollen by a trip to Spotland in the fourth round if they take care of the Silkmen.

The Owls are out to 11/4 for relegation but both the Reds and Rovers remain odds on for the drop as they fight for their Championship lives.

Doncaster Rovers travel to Ewood Park on a run of three straight losses away from home and without a win since the end of November but the hope is they catch Blackburn Rovers with one eye on next week’s FA Cup replay at the Etihad; Doncaster are 13/2 for this War of the Rovers with Blackburn 1/2 and 3/1 the draw.

Barnsley head to Charlton and the Addicks are a shade of odds on at 20/21 with the Tykes 10/3 and the draw 5/2.
