A SOUTH Yorkshire vicar who has shed over 12 stone after surgery will throw caution to the wind when she takes part in a sponsored tandem parachute jump this Saturday to raise funds for her church.

The Rev Jan Harvey, vicar of Thorpe Hesley and Scholes Church near Rotherham, will jump out of a plane from 10,000 feet at Hibaldstow airfield near Scunthorpe.

She is aiming to raise £2,500 for her church’s Stonework Appeal, which has been set up to replace the building’s aged stones and reposition others.

Jan said: “This is a personal journey as well as a fundraising event for me. Having lost over 12 stone as a result of weight loss surgery, I’m now in a position where I am able to do the jump.

“I’m very nervous but I wanted to do this so I could raise vital funds while also trying to conquer my fear of heights.”
