Vauxhall Adam Energised, the car with everything on board

Owners of the Vauxhall Adam Energised do not have to consider which optional extras to go for because the cute little city car has got them all on board and as Vauxhall clearly state this is a car with no available extras writes Bryan Longworth.

There is no choice of power unit for the only engine available for the Adam Energised which is based on the Adam Jam and costs £14,265 is a 1.2-litre petrol unit which produces a top speed of 103mph a zero to 60mph time of 14.9 seconds with a combined fuel consumption of 53.3mpg.

This is not a car for the owner wanting sporting motoring as the acceleration time shows but it is for the owner wanting something that looks good for as I discovered the bright red test car attracted a lot of admirers wherever it was parked.

It is likely to attract younger owners as I discovered when giving a lift to a young man who is about to start driving for he liked the look of the Adam Energised both inside and out and I will not be surprised if his first car is an Adam subject to help from the Bank of Mum and Dad!

I found the engine to be adequate although the five speed manual gearbox had to be worked hard at times especially with a full load on board up steep Peak District roads but overall it did a good job especially for driving around town.

There was a nice feel about the steering and considering this is such a small car I found the driving position to be better than on some larger cars and it was also easy to get in and out of.

The interior of this funky three door hatchback is also impressive with an attractive fascia and instruments that include a conventional speedometer and a digital speedo which I prefer plus a very good trip computer.

I was pleased to see manual controls for the heating rather than being on the touch screen which the driver has to use for the audio system but I would have preferred manual controls for the radio as I found it rather difficult and distracting operating this at night.

There is plenty of room up front for such a small car but it is likely that taller and larger rear passengers may have difficulty getting in and out with it being a three door and the boot is adequate and easy to access.

The test car was easy to park because of its diminutive dimensions but a word of caution about those nice shiny black alloy wheels when parking be careful not to get too close to kerbs which could cause problems! With the Adam Energised Vauxhall has got a car that should do well in this market sector for it fills a niche for those owners who like plenty of standard kit on their motors without the hassle of having to check out the long list of options for customising and deciding what to go for.
