Vandals went on a wrecking spree in Chesterfield town centre - smashing a number of shop windows.

They struck at Wallace Arnold in Knifesmithgate, and the Full Monty Hair Salon, Market Place Fish and Chips, and Peacocks Coffee Bar, all in Market Place, sometime between 5pm on Thursday, December 17 and 9am the following day.

A window at Age Concern in Cavendish Street was smashed sometime overnight between Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12.

Police officers are now searching for the culprits.

PCSO Adele Chapman-Jones, of the Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This damage is very distressing for the local shop owners, who are upset that their businesses have been targeted.

“It also creates a really poor impression of our town centre.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around these times, or if they know anything about the incidents, to contact us.”

Anyone with information about the wrecking spree should contact Derbyshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
