FLOWERS and tributes have been left at the side of a busy Sheffield road where a motorist died after his van was in collision with a car.

The accident occurred yesterday, at about 3.30pm, when a silver Rover 75 and a silver Renault Trafic van collided on Brightside Lane at the junction with Newhall Road.

Police say the Rover was travelling along Brightside Lane away from Sheffield city centre towards Meadowhall and the van was travelling on Newhall Road away from Attercliffe in the direction of Carlisle Street East when the accident occurred.

The van went on to its side and stopped against the railings of the pelican crossing.

The van driver was killed and his passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Sheffield, needed treatment for shock.

The Rover driver, an 85-year-old Sheffield man, and his passenger, an 85-year-old Sheffield woman, suffered minor whiplash injuries.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the driving of either vehicle leading up to or at the time of the collision.
