Campaign quietly at your workplace to help fund the running of a South Yorkshire hospice and support the families who need its services.
With a £1,000 target to smash to keep Rotherham Hospice running, many more volunteers are urged to join this easy fundraiser.
To do your bit just sign up to the Clock In for the Hospice Campaign that takes place on September 9, and join the ‘virtual’ hospice workforce by donating a portion of the day’s wages.
Rotherham Hospice hopes an army of ‘volunteers’ will join them. The idea is much simpler than taking to the streets with collecting tins, sweating it out on sponsored runs or baking up a storm for cake sales and coffee mornings.
Simply clock in at your workplace on September 9, the day the hospice celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Rotherham businessman Darren Baker said: “This brilliant idea means people can dedicate a few hours – or even a whole day to the hospice without having to step out of work.”
Mr Baker’s three businesses trialled the fundraising scheme – and raised £5,000 within hours.
All 30 staff at JB Doors at Parkgate and its sister companies, garage door manufacturer Alluguard and Wickersley’s Olive Tree restaurant, got involved and gave up between two hours and a full day of pay.
They raised a total of £2,500 and he matched the sum.
“I couldn’t believe how simple it was to raise such a large amount of money,” he added. “The MDs, Gary Brooks and Andy Marshall, got right behind it, called our event Donate A Day For Cancer and gave every employee a sheet on which they could tick a box to donate one hour,two hours, half a day or a full day, or not take part at all.
“Not one person ticked the last box, which made me so proud.”
