IT’S not surprising Stocksbridge shops are struggling (sorry, challenged). In a town where shops are in the valley and houses up a mountain, a regular bus service is essential. So what does First do? Cut the No 58 to one an hour.
Even this isn’t dependable, so shoppers are reluctant to shop locally in case they are left with heavy bags to carry up the hill. Especially bad is the Shay Road, Glebelands Road route with one bus an hour upward and none going down. If First can’t give a satisfactory service, perhaps Stagecoach might.
