A lorry has got stuck under a railway bridge, causing train cancellations between Meadowhall and Barnsley.

The supermarket lorry is thought to have hit the bridge near junction 35 of the M1 near Ecclesfield at about 10am.

Motorist Lee Wasden said: “The wagon with the trailer on the back looks like it has tried to go under the railway bridge and got stuck.

“All the trains will have to stop now - they can’t carry on.

“It’s a mess.”

Northern Rail has reported disruption to all lines between Meadowhall and Barnsley.

A spokesman said: “Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 25 minutes.

“An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.”
