Family and friends of a 21-year-old man killed in a car crash on a Sheffield main road have left flowers and candles at the scene.

Floral tributes have been tied to a lamppost on Barnsley Road and candles spelling out the victim’s name have been placed on the pavement below.

A young man, named only as Martin, died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two others were injured in the collision.

Police were called to the scene at 3.41am following reports that three vehicles had collided close to the junction of Barnsley Road and Herries Road.

The 21-year-old driver of a black coloured Skoda Fabia, which was travelling away from the city centre, was taken to the nearby Northern General Hospital where he died a short time later.

Two other vehicles, a black Hackney Carriage and a white Toyota Auris private hire vehicle, that were both travelling in the opposite direction were struck in the collision. A 51-year-old man who was a passenger in the Auris suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed for around eight hours while the scene was examined, vehicles recovered and the road surface cleaned.
