SHE’S been a stalwart for her club over the last 34 years and consistently gives her all.

Step forward Mary Kitson, one of Sheffield Wednesday’s longest-serving employees, who was highly commended in the Unsung Hero category of The Football League Awards.

Mary received the recognition at a gala ceremony at The Brewery, London, in front of guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.

She has lived within a mile of the Hillsborough ground since childhood and Sheffield Wednesday has been an integral part of her family’s lives.

Cleaning manager Mary organises the resources and cleaning schedule for the stadium and training ground, including every one of the 39,000 seats between each match.

A report by the judging panel for the award said: “There were some truly outstanding and remarkable candidates making judging extremely difficult.

The shortlisted candidates were all worthy of recognition and all unsung heroes.

“Mary has made a remarkable contribution to Sheffield Wednesday, way beyond the call of duty, epitomised by the compassion she has shown for others. In a role taken for granted by many, she should be applauded for everything she has done over many years.”
