THIS was the scene after a University of Sheffield building was reduced to rubble to make way for a new state-of-the-art £12m graduate engineering school.

Demolition work at the corner of Broad Lane and Newcastle Street in Sheffield city centre took place in preparation for the university’s new centre for graduate engineers.

The single storey building, which contained lecture theatres and laboratories, was flattened and the new Faculty of Engineering Graduate School is expected to be completed by September 2013.

The development is the first stage in a 15-year plan to improve and extend the existing estate.
