Sheffield United moved into the second round of the FA Cup with a hard fought win over Colchester United.

But those expecting the result to spark a turnaround may be advised to check out BetVictor’s League One specials, United 6/1 for a top six finish, 14/1 for promotion and interestingly enough 14/1 to finish top in betting for ‘Top Northern Club’.

(Top League One Northern Club prices from BetVictor: Preston North End 4/9 Bradford City 4/1 Rotherham United 7/1 Sheffield United 14/1.)

United are a shade off odds-on at 17/20 for Saturday’s clash, The Gills 18/5 and the draw 11/4.

The Bladesd should be able to dispense of a Gillingham side that have struggled on their travels; losing four of their last five league games away.

The Blades three wins this season have all come with conceding and the ‘win and both teams to score’ bet is one that continues to grow in popularity, United 11/4 to do so, with the both teams to score bet itself 3/4.

A Blades 3-1 win is 14/1, or a repeat of Saturday’s 3-2 score 25/1 with BetVictor.

Elsewhere in League One Rotherham put their league form to one side when dumping Bradford out of the FA Cup. Although the Millers have just one league win in their last eight they should be able springboard themselves back into play-off contention and are 6/4 to beat a Stevenage side heading for relegation; Boro 2/1 and the draw 12/5.

Kieren Agard looks the value at 7/1 to open the scoring, 23/10 to score anytime with Daniel Nardiello the 17/4 favourite.

The wheels have threatened to come off Chesterfield’s season; without a win in their last seven in League Two, the early pace-setters are now third behind Fleetwood and Oxford.

That being said they achieved a much-needed confidence boosting victory in the FA Cup was reinforced with a 3-0 defeat of Rochdale in the JPT on Tuesday.

The Spireites can build on this at Torquay, they are 11/10 favourites with BetVictor, The Gulls 11/4 and the draw 13/5.

Despite Chesterfield’s run in the league they are unbeaten in five in all competitions and should be far too good for struggling Torquay; Chesterfield are 12/5 half time/full time double result.

In the Championship Barnsley and Doncaster played out a goalless draw in a cagey South Yorkshire Derby at Oakwell in game where nerves definitely played their part; both sides desperate for a win to distance themselves from the relegation places.

That point leaves Barnsley two points adrift of bottom club Yeovil, Doncaster two points further clear and just one place above the relegation zone; it promises to be a tough season for both. Barnsley are 20/1 for a top half finish (1/50 for bottom half) and 10//11 to stay up (4/5 to be relegated) whilst Donny are 8/1 for a top half finish (bottom half 1/20) and ½ to stay up (6/4 to be relegated).
