Sheffield Hallam University Students’ Union has been presented with a gold award for inspiring students to get actively involved in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The union is one of only five students’ unions in the country to achieve the accreditation for its work on the Be a Champion programme.
The initiative rewards and recognises the commitment shown by students’ unions in creating an environment which allows for Games-inspired activity to thrive.
Activities and projects with an Olympic theme organised in Sheffield include a joint initiative with Sheffield Council’s major sports unit which has led to students volunteering at national sporting events in the city.
Jake Kitchiner, Hallam union president, said: “It’s an honour for Hallam Union to be recognised for our passion and enthusiasm for London 2012.
“It’s testimony to the incredible work our staff and students do within our community.”
