WE learn through the Freedom of Information laws that there are 18 union officials in Sheffield being paid for out of our council taxes.
The cost to the taxpayer in 2010/11 was £504,585, for salaries alone. Offices, stationery and other costs must be added. Furthermore, are these people among those who are entitled to expenses and bonuses?
The wages and all expenses incurred by these union officials should be paid for through the subscriptions of the members of their particular union and not the council taxpayer.
In these difficult times when jobs are to be axed, these union officials should be the first to go.
Leave the important employees who serve the interests of the city in place.
