A TRADE union has appointed a Sheffield official to one of its top positions.

Transport and travel union TSSA has appointed Steve Coe as an Assistant General Secretary.

Steve, who lives in Walkley, will be based in the union’s York office on Nunnery Lane, and will manage staff there, and those based in Manchester, Derby and Bristol, covering the North East, North West, Midlands and Western Regions, including Wales.

A former secretary of TSSA’s Sheffield branch and a member of the union’s executive committee, Steve was employed for 12 years in the ticket office at Sheffield station before joining the TSSA paid staff in 2000.

Steve, who wants the railways to be renationalised, said: “The recent West Coast franchising fiasco shows that privatisation just isn’t working, either for the staff or the passengers.

“Rail staff and the passengers deserve better.

“I look forward to working with TSSA members, other unions, passenger groups, politicians and others to drive that campaign forward”.
