A TAXI driver has been stripped of his licence and hit with a hefty fine after being caught driving his cab without insurance.
Akhtar Mahmood, aged 45, of Balfour Road, Darnall, drove his Nissan Primera uninsured on Longcroft Road, Dronfield Woodhouse, on November 6 last year.
Mahmood was fined £350 with £657 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
His private hire vehicle licence was also revoked by North East Derbyshire Council.
The driver admitted the offence following an investigation by the licensing authority. Mahmood entered his plea by post.
Coun Harold Laws, the council’s member with responsibility for planning and licensing, said: “We take this offence very seriously. This case underlines that the council can and will take appropriate action against offenders.”
