THOUSANDS of school uniforms will be sent to youngsters in Tanzania thanks to a Barnsley woman’s appeal.
Big-hearted teaching assistant Lisa Beckingham managed to collect 3,500 old uniforms from schools in the town.
But her good work hit a snag when she then needed to raise the money to send such a large amount of uniforms overseas.
Luckily local firm Thornhill Ltd, which makes rubber gaskets, has now stepped in to help cover the £1,000 courier cost.
Lisa, of Park Road, Grimethorpe, has done voluntary work in Tanzania in the past and started her appeal as children there cannot attend school unless they have a uniform to wear.
