A renowned Egyptologist will host a celebration of all things Egyptian, at a one-off Museums Sheffield event.
TV’s Professor Joann Fletcher, originally from Barnsley, will headline the ‘Secret Egypt After Life Party’ this Friday, with a night of activities, talks and demos.
Joann - presenter of BBC2 series ‘Immortal Egypt’ and Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning ‘Mummifying Alan: Egypt’s Last Secret’ - has promised visitors a unique insight into Ancient Egypt, followed by a signing of her new book.
The after-hours party will bring a close to Weston Park’s Secret Egpyt exhibition with visitors getting the chance to learn to dance like an Egyptian at the Silent Disco, have cleopatra eyeliner applied, try their hand at the Ancient Egyptian game or Senet or have a go at Hieroglyph Bingo.
There’ll also be the opportunity to learn gruesome embalming skills and prepare for the afterlife by making shabtis and funeral collars.
Rosie Eagleton, events producer at Museums Sheffield, said: “We’re really excited about our first LIVE LATE event at Weston Park – the Secret Egypt After Life Party promises to be a brilliant event and we’ve got loads of interactive fun lined up.
“It’s a real treat that Joann Fletcher will be joining us at the event too – tickets for her talk will be strictly limited so arrive early to avoid missing out.”
Since 2013, Museums Sheffield LIVE LATES have given visitors opportunities to try their hand at new skills and have fun at popular interactive after hours events. This is the first time that LIVE LATES has come to Weston Park Museum.
Entry to Friday’s event is free, though donations are welcome on the door. The event starts at 7.30pm.
