A NEW residential home and day centre with 83 beds, specialising in dementia care, has been opened by Dickie Bird.

The Barnsley-born cricketer turned international umpire was guest of honour at the opening of the new £5 million Mapplewell Manor - built on the site of the former council owned and NHS managed Greenside home, which closed in December 2010.

Around 90 full and part-time jobs have been created.
