TWO women are in hospital with serious injuries after the car they were travelling in hit a tree.

Police said their blue Ford Fiesta was travelling along Bank End Road in Doncaster, from Blaxton towards Westwoodside, when it is thought a silver Peugeot turned right into its path from the junction with Wroot Road, heading towards Doncaster.

The Fiesta driver managed to avoid a collision with the Peugeot but lost control of her car and smashed into a tree.

Firefighters helped remove the 45-year-old from the car. She had suffered serious chest, stomach and back injuries and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary where she was detained.

An 18-year-old passenger was also detained at the same hospital after suffering serious back and stomach injuries in the collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at 2.20pm yesterday and are keen to trace the silver Peugeot which failed to stop at the scene.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020.
