A SHEFFIELD punter owes Billy Paynter a pint - after the Doncaster Rovers forward scored a late goal which helped him scoop almost £7,500.

The lucky gambler, whose identity has not been revealed but who lives in Sheffield, took home the whopping win after waging just £2 on a football accumulator.

The combined odds had been a staggering 3,750 to one.

The man bet on all eight Yorkshire sides playing last Saturday - Sheffield United, Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, York, Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull and Barnsley - along with Chesterfield in a nine team accumulator.

And, incredibly, all nine teams ran out winners.

Chris Spicer, football trader at Leeds-based bookmaker Sky Bet, said: “A combination of football league teams won to give this customer a perfect Saturday! He seems to be a clued-up punter, picking several results from the ever unpredictable League Two.

“Doncaster looked to be scuppering his bet, but then Billy Paynter popped up to score the winner against Brentford in the 84th minute to send him into dreamland.”

He added: “The Premier League was bad enough for us with several favourites winning from behind, but we were further licking our wounds after this 3,750-to-one nine-fold obliged!”

The winning accumulator saw the man stake just £2 and correctly predict all the results to win exactly £7,468.76.

The odds had been 11/10 for York to beat Dagenham & Redbridge, evens for Bradford to beat Cheltenham, 6/5 for Rotherham to win over Aldershot Town, 12/5 for Chesterfield to win at Exeter, 8/5 for Doncaster to beat Brentford at home, 13/8 for Sheffield United to win at Preston, 11/8 for Huddersfield to see off Wolves, 5/6 for Hull to beat Ipswich Town, and 3/1 for Barnsley to win at Charlton.
