It is about time that Sheffield honoured our fabulous sporting hero Jessica Ennis properly for her magnificent sporting achievements.
To follow up her Olympic Gold in 2012 with a World Championship success after giving birth last year is a truly remarkable feat and the way she retains her modesty and humility is an example to everyone on the planet, never mind those of us who see her shopping in Sheffield.
Jess is heaven sent – She has it all and she is a World champ to boot.
Gold postboxes and little plaques outside the Town Hall are simply not the way to celebrate this lady.
For once Sheffield needs to let the world know that this fantastic icon is one of us and represents everything that is great about the sporting offer in our city .
We don’t need a lot of money to put things in order – A couple of letter Ns from the signwriter would make the English Institute of Sport EIS into the ENNIS.
A massive photograph on the side of the building of Jessica with her gold medals and a big steel statue on the pavement of the Attercliffe Common would be a fitting tribute to a Sheffield girl whose winning smile alone makes her a worthy recipient of all the city can bestow.
Jessica Ennis is more than a world-class athlete – She is a role model to thousands and her story is very, very special .
Let’s do something special for a special person that people will notice when they visit the new Olympic Legacy Park and E(NN)IS.
