TWO men are being questioned by murder squad detectives after a body of a woman was found in a car.
Police acting on a tip-off discovered the body of a woman aged in her 40s in the boot of a Ford Fiesta on Doncaster Road in Goldthorpe, Barnsley at about midday on Saturday.
It is understood officers made one arrest at the scene.
Shortly afterwards several police vehicles stopped outside a house on Garden Street in Goldthorpe - believed to be the victim’s home - where they remained on Sunday.
Three forensics officers in white suits entered the terrace house yesterday afternoon. Police conducted house-to-house enquiries following the arrests.
Doncaster Road was closed after the area around the car was cordoned off. Forensics officers combed the area for hours before the car was eventually removed.
But the road, a main route into the village, was still closed yesterday afternoon.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the woman lived at the house on Garden Street with her partner and a 12-year-old girl. Detectives had reassured her the child was safe.
She added: “It is appalling to think of something like this happening under our noses. They had only lived there for two months, before that they lived in Thurnscoe and I believe he was originally from London.
“So we didn’t know them too well. She was quite small and seemed nice, although I once heard them arguing and had to come inside.”
A police spokesman said two men had been arrested on suspicion of murder and were still being questioned by detectives.
