Two men have been arrested after a shooting in broad daylight on a busy Sheffield road.

A 47-year-old and a 33-year-old, both from Parson Cross, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary, after a man was shot in the leg on Penistone Road last Wednesday.

A 25-year-old man was admitted to hospital a short time later with a gunshot wound. He has since been discharged.

Officers carried out two separate raids on Maun Way, Firth Park and Manor Park Road, Manor this morning. Both men are still in police custody.

Police investigating the shooting also believe that a firearm was discharged on Southey Green Road prior to the incident, but no one was injured.

Detectives have already recovered two vehicles believed to be involved in the incident, a black Seat Leon (registration number FD06 FJJ) and a grey VW Golf (registration number YN65 WCE), one of which was stolen from a property in Barnsley.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers are still keen to hear from anyone who saw either of the vehicles around the time of the incident.

“The investigation continues - anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident number 479 of January 20 2016.

“Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555111.”
