A BUSY road in South Yorkshire is closed following a serious pile-up involving three vehicles in which two people are believed to have died.
The smash happened at around 6.20am on the A616 Stocksbridge bypass, between the Tankersley roundabout and the A629 junction.
Traffic has built up in the area as the road is closed in both directions and is not expected to reopen until later today.
The collision involved three vehicles - a van travelling towards Sheffield, and a van and car travelling in the opposite direction.
There were five casualties, including two people thought to have died at the scene, with another two being taken to Barnsley District General Hospital for treatment.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “We are desperate for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. We know there were some other vehicles in the area.”
