Tweeting fan ends in court

A FOOTBALL fan who made racist comments on Twitter has been ordered to carry out community service after ex-Sheffield Wednesday striker Mark Bright made objections.

Luke O’Donoughoe, 23, had already been banned from the Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium, the first fan in the country to be banned from a football ground over comments made on a social networking site.

He used Twitter to make comments about Norwich City’s signing James Vaughan. Twitter users, including former Sheffield Wednesday striker-turned-media pundit Mark Bright, objected to his comments.

The incident was investigated by police and O’Donoughoe was charged with sending an offensive message by public communication network. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order and 120 hours of unpaid work.”
