EXCITED youngsters in Sheffield could wake up on Christmas morning to find this famous snowman in their back garden.
For the life-size model, a replica of the cute character in department store John Lewis’ most recent festive television advert, is being auctioned off by a South Yorkshire charity.
Safe@Last was given the 4ft 8ins tall frosty fella by the city’s branch of John Lewis and will pass it on to the highest bidder on Christmas Eve.
Money raised will help the charity work with children and young people at risk of running away or being thrown out of their home in South Yorkshire.
Clare Sherratt, head of communications and funding, said: “We’re very grateful to John Lewis for generously donating this fabulous snowman to us.
“We’re excited to be able to offer the unique opportunity to our supporters to take home this special friend and small part of Christmas TV history.
“All money raised through the auction will help us to continue to offer essential services for vulnerable young people during the Christmas period.”
The snowman is being auctioned on eBay, and bids – which can be taken until Saturday at 7pm – have so far reached more than £30.
It has attracted many shoppers keen to be photographed with the star of The Journey advert – which celebrates the extra mile people go to in finding the perfect gift and has been an internet hit.
John Lewis in Sheffield gave Safe@Last the snowman as it is its charity of the year.
James Prince, store managing director, said: “The snowman has been a real hit with children and adults and we are delighted to donate it to Safe@Last to help them raise much needed funds for the fantastic work they do in the local community.”
n Visit the charity’s shop at Safe at Last to bid on the snowman before Saturday. The winner must be available to collect the snowman from John Lewis in Barker’s Pool from 4pm-4.45pm on December 24.
