Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst has paid a sporting compliment to Sheffield United-loving boxing champion Kell Brook.

The one-time Owls striker said he was impressed with the IBF world welterweight ruler’s time of 94 minutes in last weekend’s Sheffield Half Marathon.

“That is some achievement” Hirst said on football’s “You are the Ref” video show.

“But he is a fit guy and he’s working up to a big fight (Frankie Gavin, 02 Arena, May 30.)

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett also acknowledged Brook’s recent demolition job on Romanian mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan, saying his opponent had to withstand some hellish punching power.

The panel also praised the fitness of retired ref Howard Webb, who also took part in the 7,000-runner event.
