Celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo is to open a restaurant in Sheffield, it has been announced.

Details of the new eatery remain under wraps, but the opening is planned for early next year.

Ahead of the opening, city diners can get a taste of what could be available at his new restaurant at an event before his live 'Italian Escape' show at Sheffield City Hall tomorrow night.

He is putting on prosecco and bar snacks at city centre restaurant Piccolino before his 8pm show.

The Celebrity Juice and This Morning star, along with Individual Restaurants - the company behind both Piccolino and Gino D’Acampo My Restaurant - is offering all guests who visit Piccolino, in Millenium Square, between 4pm and 6.30pm, a glass of prosecco and a selection of cicchetti free of charge.

Cicchetti are small snacks or side dishes, typically served along with an ‘aperitivo’, a pre-dinner drink, in Italy.

There will also be the chance for guests to win a book signed by the famous chef.

His show, which starts at 8pm, is part of an 18 venue nationwide tour following his hit TV programme of the same name.

It will feature signature recipes from across Italy and audience participation.

Gino said: “I am very excited and can’t wait to get out there and share some fantastic food and cooking tips from my home country. It’s going to be Gino - live and unleashed.”

The chef, who previously had no middle name, adopted ‘Sheffield’ by deed poll after an audience vote on an episode of TV’s Celebrity Juice two years ago.
