CENTENARY celebrations for a Sheffield Scout troop were launched with a hedge-planting session close to its Nether Edge base.

Parents and volunteers helped members of the 35th Sheffield St Oswald’s plant 201 trees – 100 to mark the last 100 years, 100 for the next 100 and a jubilee oak to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee grown from a Sandringham acorn.

The hedge was planted on disused land close to the troop’s hut on Archer Lane.

Assistant Beaver Scout leader Dean Marage said: “We had a great response from the community who came out to help and everyone is excited about what is going to be a very big year for us.”

The troop is looking for former members to get in touch for reunion events.
