Triple success for Doncaster Free Press at 02 Media Awards

The Doncaster Free Press scored a hat-trick of awards at last night’s glittering O2 Media Awards.

Reporters Darren Burke, Paul Goodwin and Hayley Paterson were all highly commended in the ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds which recognised the best journalistic talents in the Yorkshire and the Humber region.

Darren picked up a certificate in the Weekly News Reporter of the Year category. His portfolio of entries included the astonishing story of a Doncaster woman who lived with a football sized tumour on the side of her face for two decades and a hard-hitting feature on the 30th annivesary of the Miners’ Strike.
Hayley and Paul were both highly commended in the Weekly Sports Reporter of the Year category. Hayley’s entry included several articles on Doncaster Belles’ fight to remain in the Women’s Premier League and a thought-provoking feature on the effects of depression in sport.

Paul’s entry also focused on the Belles unsuccessful bid to fight the controversial FA demotion as well as a fun piece about a Doncaster teacher who took on a series of challenges in aid of Sport Relief.

The awards were hosted by BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin.
