THREE men have been charged over an attack on a South Yorkshire police officer called to deal with a pub row.
The trio appeared before Rotherham magistrates on Wednesday after being arrested following an assault on a 34-year-old bobby outside the Mail Coach on Wellgate in Rotherham town centre on Monday night.
The officer had been called by the landlord after a row broke out inside over smoking.
Violence flared and the officer was allegedly struck over the head around 30 times with his own CS gas canister.
He was taken to hospital with a head injury but was later discharged.
Michael Dolan, aged 49, of Fitzwilliam Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, is charged with wounding and possession of a firearm - a CS spray.
He was remanded in custody.
Lewis Kent, 23, also of Fitzwilliam Road and Darryl Kent, 27, of Adelaide Street, Maltby, are both charged with affray,
They have been granted bail pending their next court hearing.
