TRIBUTES have been paid to a Sheffield war hero who has died aged 85.
John Henry Wallace, known as Jack, was one of the last Burma Stars and a much-loved father and grandfather.
Jack, who was born in Sheffield and worked for British Steel for many years, was a veteran of the World War II Burma campaign.
Jack lived in Mablethorpe inhis latter years and was a life member of the Burma Star Association.
He will be honoured with a full military funeral at Alford Crematorium in the town on Monday.
Jack joined the Green Howards infantry regiment aged just 17.
He was one of the youngest Burma Star members in the association.
Mark Reddin, of the British Legion, said: “Jack enjoyed the simple things in life, and was known to everyone as a gentle giant.”
