More than 150 people have attended the funeral of Janet Parry, former executive director at Sheffield Homes, who has died aged 58.
Wales-born and Scotland-raised, Janet moved to Sheffield in the 1980s before joining Sheffield Housing Department in 1984. When Sheffield Homes was formed in 2004 she was director of housing management and had a crucial role in transforming council housing.
Over £700 million was needed to improve tenants’ homes, but to obtain government funding Sheffield Homes needed to pass high standards set by the housing inspectorate.
Janet was project leader for three inspections, Sheffield Homes achieved top marks, and in 2010 the organisation was independently assessed as the best housing service in the country.
Janet took early retirement in 2012 to pursue her interest in Fine Art.
She started a degree at Sheffield Hallam University, completing the foundation year, where she was given the highest mark ever awarded on the course.
Married to Steve, with two children, Claire and Tom, Janet, from Millhouses, had liver cancer and died at St Luke’s Hospice on March 20.
Her funeral was at Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses.
