Tributes have been paid to a ‘marvellous’ councillor who has died after a long illness.
Coun Denise Wilde, aged 69, who was Labour member for Wombwell on Barnsley Council since 2003, passed away in Barnsley Hospice.
Coun Sir Steve Houghton, Barnsley Council leader, said: “Denise was a highly involved member of the council - particularly in housing.
“She was a strong and dedicated advocate for Wombwell and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
Barnsley East Labour MP Michael Dugher said: “She was also a marvellous Yorkshire woman who had real grit and determination.
“My condolences go to husband Raymond and all her family and friends, and in particular to her grandchildren.”
