Sheffield Wednesday fans and footballers have paid tribute to a lifelong Owls fan who died while supporting the team he loved abroad.
The club said Kevin Wright died ‘suddenly’ while in Portugal, where Wednesday have played two friendly matches as part of a pre-season training camp.
In a statement, the club said: “Everyone at Sheffield Wednesday was distressed to learn of the tragic passing of lifelong Wednesdayite Kevin Wright this week.
“The club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Kevin’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Owls players have also paid tribute to Kevin.
Striker Gary Madine said on Twitter: “Sorry to hear about the Wednesday fan who passed away in Portugal thoughts go out to all his family and friends. RIP.”
Fellow player Jermain Johnson said on Twitter: “This is really sad and a great loss indeed to all of us at SWFC.
“My condolences goes out to his family, you guys are in my prayers.”
Fans have also being paying tribute to the ‘lovely bloke’ and ‘massive Owl’.
One posted online: “He joins good people at the most exclusive of supporters’ clubs.”
