Trees are a memorial

Have your say

I was shocked when I read in the Star that Amey are going to fell one of the trees in Western Road, Crookes.

I went to Western Road School from 1946 to 1956 Infant and Juniors and Secondary.

I have lived in Crookes for 45 years, so I have known these trees for most of my life. They were planted as a war memorial to the pupils who fought in World War 1.

If any of those trees are felled it will be like desecration of a war memorial and the pupils who sacrificed their lives for us will be somebody’s ancestor.

It is not long until November and for Armistice Day, when the council will be at the war memorial, Barkers Pool, heads bowed.

Think of those memorial trees that you have felled.
