A ‘Tree of Life’ sculpture made by a renowned local artist is set to be installed in a Rotherham charity’s grounds.

The garden at Rotherham Hospice will soon welcome the piece by renowned Derbyshire sculptor Steve Mehdi, the man behind the Yorkshire Man of Steel project.

The Man of Steel will be a 30 metre high statue installed by the M1 to commemorate the area’s rich steel history.

Mehdi’s Tree of Life will be built entirely from stainless steel weighing more than 1.5 tonnes and will be three metres high and almost four metres wide.

“For a long time we have wanted a special commemorative artwork within the Hospice grounds which would enable our patients’ families to remember their loved ones,” said head of fundraising Colin Cawood-Campbell.

The hospice hopes to unveil the piece by autumn.
