ILLEGAL gypsy travellers who set up camp on green belt land are set to be evicted.
Doncaster Council has won a battle in the High Court to enforce the removal of residents from the illegal site at Moss Road, Askern.
A judge yesterday ordered the residents to leave by no later than February 28 - and, if they don’t, the council will be able to apply to court for the power to evict them.
The action was taken because residents failed to comply with an enforcement order issued by the Secretary of State to leave the site by March 9 last year.
The residents laid hard standing and installed caravans on the field without planning permission. Their application for retrospective planning permission was refused and two appeals have been dismissed.
Families have been offered support in finding accommodation by the council’s Housing Options team and assistance with caravan storage.
