MOBILITY scooter owners are being urged to join a new scheme making it easier for them to travel by bus.
South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and bus operators First and Stagecoach have created a local Scooter Code initiative, to clear up confusion about which scooters can go on buses and which cannot. Some are too big and can cause an obstruction.
From next Wednesday, February 22, a new Scooter Permit will show the bus driver the holder’s scooter is suitable to take on the bus. The passes will be free and issued after a free assessment is made by either First - call 01709 566 000 - or Stagecoach - call 0845 266 6606. Passes will then be accepted by all participating operators.
Powered wheelchairs are not affected.
