TRAVEL: Pamper yourself at Ragdale Hall

SOMETIMES when life gets too tough, the best thing to do is stop, take some time out and really get away from it all.

Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Thermal Spa is set in the Leicestershire countryside near Melton Mowbray and offers the perfect chance to escape the stresses, strains and traumas of life.

It boasts an incredible array of facilities - five pools, 11 heat rooms, a gym, two fitness studios, and dozens of treatment rooms, to name just a few.

I visited Ragdale with my mum, as she needed a bit of TLC too, and we opted for the overnight stay which gave us a day-and-a-half of rest and relaxation.

In our room - a luxurious twin, with modern decor and pristine bathroom - we were presented with a timetable which listed the times of our meals and treatments. The rest of the time was ours to do with as we wished and explore the other facilities or go to fitness classes or talks.

Donning the robes, we ventured downstairs for our treatments. Mum had a full Swedish deep tissue body massage using Elemis de-stress oil which was 'very soothing, yet stimulating.'

My Lava Shell Massage was a treatment new to Ragdale and I can honestly say I've never felt so relaxed in my life while still being awake.

The next day I was treated to a Harmony Facial. Mum went for a Tri Enzyme facial. Buffed and beautiful it was time to sample Ragdale's new Thermal Spa.

Pleasant touches include an endless supply of fluffy towels and even individual shelves for visitors' specs.

Possibly the most impressive aspect of a visit to Ragdale Hall is the dining. Admittedly food is not supposed to be the main reason for a spa visit but the Ragdale food experience is well worth a mention.

Included in our stay were lunch, dinner, breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is delivered to the bedroom and guests are given a choice of food and drink options. For lunch, visitors are treated to a delicious, three course hot and cold buffet.

In the evening there is a candlelit three course meal - complete with wine list - well, it would be rude not to.
