Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin was due to visit Worksop today to see how a key station in a £14.8 billion rail project is being built – 130 miles from its eventual site.

Mr McLoughlin visited the Laing O’Rourke factory at Steetley, where Crossrail’s Custom House station is being constructed.

It will be moved to east London to become one of the 38 stations in the west-to-east cross-London Crossrail scheme.

Crossrail chief executive Andrew Wolstenholme said: “The method saves time and money and minimises disruption.”
