WHAT was once an overgrown path has been transformed into a new walking and cycling trail.
The route between Eckington junior and secondary schools has been widened and surfaced at a cost of £40,000 by Derbyshire County Council.
It is now a safe trail for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and people using wheelchairs and mobility scooters, with new fencing, barriers and horse gates.
Children from the schools joined Coun George Wharmby, Chairman of Derbyshire County Council and Coun Simon Spencer, council deputy leader, to officially open the route.
Coun Spencer said: “The new greenway will make a huge difference to residents.”
